Thank you for your interest in the position of STEM Worker at YMCA Crewe. This role is crucial to the work we do in the community supporting young people across Cheshire.

Job purpose: Plan and deliver STEM activities to Children and Young People in both school settings and at YMCA Crewe’s STEM Hub.

When: 6 hours a week: Thursdays (3pm – 5pm) and Saturdays (9.30am – 12.30pm) and an extra hour for planning

Salary: £12/hour 

Responsible to: Youth Advocacy Worker

Main Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Plan and deliver engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities and learning experiences that are fun and interactive for Children and Young People. 
  • Proficiency or basic knowledge of some software and programming concept such Microsoft, Tinkercad (3D design and modelling), Scratch Programming etc.  
  • Create a nurturing environment for Children and Young People, that aids their well-being, builds their confidence and self-esteem.  
  • To undertake specific risk assessments and tasks that contribute to a safe controlled environment and manage ‘dynamic’ risk ensuring that risks that emerge during activities are managed and reported.    
  • Transport resources to the venue and ensure the activity is properly set up and that everything is put away.  
  • Build and maintain relationships with local schools, colleges and employers to help improve the pathways and increase engagement with STEM subjects and to inspire Children and young people to continue to pursue the subjects at a higher level of education.  
  • Capture data and feedback and prepares reports (capturing the progress) of children and young people which guides the learning process. 
  • Produce a monthly report on learning progress.  

 

Other  Responsibilities:

  • Be fully versed with safeguarding to protect each individual from harm in accordance with current safeguarding legislation.   
  • Ensure equality, diversity and inclusion is embedded within service delivery and the wider organisation   
  • Work according to the quality standards, policies and procedures of YMCA Crewe at all times  
  • Actively participate in the supervision and training process to develop better services and continuous personal development  
  • Understand, embrace and promote the values of the Association, ie “YMCA Crewe values the unique potential of all people, a can-do approach in our staff and volunteers and the Christian basis of our organisation”  
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably be required
