Shanaze Reade, the celebrated British BMX cyclist, and her partner Katy Roocroft recently paid a visit to YMCA Crewe, an organisation dedicated to providing support and opportunities for individuals in need. During their visit, they received a guided tour of the facility and engaged in discussions with YMCA Crewe’s CEO, Mark Hills.
The head of Impact and Service, Becky Parke gave both a tour around the building on Gresty Road, Crewe. Upon experiencing the depth of YMCA Crewe’s services firsthand, Shanaze expressed her astonishment at the scope of the organisation’s impact. She remarked, “I did not realize the magnitude of how many people YMCA Crewe catered for. I thought it was for boys, but it is for both genders. In my short visit, I witnessed the pure happiness and warmth of the staff and residents as well as noticed the high engagement of the residents. This shows that it is beyond just providing shelter but giving life a purpose.”
Shanaze and Katy’s visit highlights the importance of community engagement and support in addressing issues of homelessness and providing individuals with the necessary resources to thrive. Their interaction with YMCA Crewe’s staff and residents emphasises the organisation’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
