As part of Talentscape, residents have the opportunity to create and run their own “pop-up business”. Our first resident to take up this opportunity was Luke Turner, who made full use of our cafe and industrial kitchen facilities to provide a lunch service to staff and residents at the YMCA.

Luke recruited volunteers for his business, designed a menu and set prices, delegated tasks, ensured Health and Safety regulations were met, supervised the preparation and service of food, and served paying customers.

“I learnt teamwork, leadership and what it’s like to run a business. It was very quick-paced but the most enjoyable part was at the end when people said the food tasted good and when I learnt that I had turned a profit!”

The day went very well and has inspired other residents to think about what they might want to do – from another food-themed Mexican restaurant to hairdressing/beauty pop-up business – so watch this space!
