YMCA Crewe were invited by Cheshire East Council Children’s Services to attend the annual ceremony for the LGC Awards at Grosvenor House, in London on 13th March. This is the biggest celebration of excellence in local government.
Cheshire East had been shortlisted for an award in the Public/Private/Voluntary Partnership category for their work in developing the Ignition Panel, which brings together professionals and housing providers so that young people leaving care can begin to explore their accommodation options well before they leave foster care or other types of provision. Having all the right people in the same room together means young people can be invited to share their needs and ideas about where they want to live and what support they may need. Ignition has become well embedded in Cheshire East services and YMCA Crewe is a key partner in many ways, not least the provision of properties and visiting, through floating support.
Although Cheshire East did not receive an award, being shortlisted for this prestigious event is testament to the value placed on the creativity and energy that is driving meaningful change. Congratulations to Dave Leadbetter (Cheshire East) and his team and to the frontline workers at YMCA Crewe who partner to deliver this excellent service.
